You Cannot Make A Mistake

Whaaa…?

Yeah, this one blew me away. A core principle I learned and embraced as part of my coach training program.

So what does it mean you ask?

It’s really all about reframing our thoughts.

We can make a choice, and if things don’t go as we hoped or expected,

be hard on ourselves.

Why did I do that? That was stupid.  I am stupid.  I should have done it this other way.  And on and on.

How does it feel to read that?

Now how about this one

Hmm, that didn’t work out the way I expected.  I guess next time I will do it differently.

How does that feel? Does it feel different?

What about this one

Wow, that didn’t go the way I thought it would and I just learned so many things I will use when I try again.

How does that feel compared to the others?

The idea behind this principle is rather than seeing mistakes, we see opportunities instead. Opportunity to learn, refine, and change our actions in the future and an opportunity to release judgment of ourselves.

This week: When you notice you are being hard on yourself, take a moment and try to reframe your thoughts.  What opportunities exist in that experience?

"Every twist and turn in life is an opportunity to learn something new about yourself, your interests, your talents and how to set and then achieve goals"

Until next week

Happy Adventuring!
